Seedlings Official Opening

We are delighted to announce the official opening of our brand-new Seedlings Room, which will provide local families with greater childcare choice and vital support for working parents. The room was formally opened by our town MP, Juliet Campbell (Lab), who joined us to celebrate this important milestone for the community.

This exciting expansion is part of the Government’s Best Start school-based nursery programme, which has funded 300 schools like Springbank to create or expand nursery places. The aim is to ease the pressures of the school run, support parents to stay in work, and help families contribute to economic growth.

Why Seedlings Matters

Head teacher Adam Lumley spoke about the urgent need for new childcare options in St Mary’s ward:

“I was utterly shocked to discover that after the closure of a private nursery near our school several years ago there was a drastic lack of childcare options available in the St Mary's ward of Eastwood. Just one solitary source of childcare was being run from a private house for the whole of Eastwood and absolutely none in St Mary's.”

Adam explained how securing Best Start funding enabled the school to respond:

“Thankfully fortune smiled on us and we were able to secure childcare expansion funding. This allowed us to create our fabulous Seedlings nursery… It fills my heart with warmth every time I step into Seedlings.”

He also shared a heartfelt thank-you to the team who made the opening possible:

“A massive thank you to our remarkable team, Emma and Hannah, who, under the inspiring leadership of Chloe Underwood, have devoted their hearts and souls to ensure we open our doors this September with outstanding provision for our wonderful two- to three-year-olds.”

A Welcome Boost for Eastwood Families

During the opening, Juliet Campbell MP praised the project:

“This new room will nurture the next generation of children in Eastwood, bringing learning to life from an earlier age. Your commitment, passion, and hard work have made this possible… What you have achieved here reflects the very best of Eastwood.”

She also highlighted the wider national ambition:

“This Government is on a mission to give every child the best start in life, but our main partners in achieving that aren’t down in Westminster… they are here – in the incredible work of schools, teachers and parents.”
