The White Hills Park Trust publish a Newsletter every Friday afternoon during term time for all their academies, featuring news, pictures and information from the week at Springbank, and an article from the WHP Trust’s CEO Dr Heery.

It's Coming Home

In line with nearly all schools, If your child is a football fan and is likely to be staying up until after 11pm on Sunday to watch the final, you are welcome to let them stay in bed a little longer.  We would rather have the children in school ready to learn, rather than absent all day and grumpy.  The children will not be marked as late.

We will have the school gates open as usual from 8:40 until 9:30 am and the gates will reopen at 11am.

It is 55 years since England reached a major football final, so let them watch, talk about the importance of the national anthem, talk about pride and resilience and possible disappointment.  This is a learning opportunity and memorable moment.

Online Grooming New Campaign (Internet watch Foundation)

There is a new online grooming campaign aimed at helping parents keep their child safe on line. One of the videos I have found extremely powerful is called, 'Where's Klaus?' (You can find it on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4GKXsAOYZE) In it, a series of (unsuitable) people turn up at Klaus' house and his mum let's them in. The end of the video is perhaps the most disturbing of all.

A new IWF safety campaign aims to help parents have conversations with their children about keeping their 'door' closed to child sexual abusers. The campaign includes a booklet for parents, explaining the risks, explaining why children are vulnerable, and suggests practice steps that parents can take.

The mnemonic used in the campaign is TALK:

  • TALK to your child about online sexual abuse. Start the conversation – and listen to their concerns.
  • AGREE ground rules about the way you use technology as a family.
  • LEARN about the platforms and apps your child loves. Take an interest in their online life.
  • KNOW how to use tools, apps and settings that can help to keep your child safe online.
